I don't think you misspoke. In industrial fluorescent lights, when one side flickers or dims, it is often the ballast that needs replacing. It could be a number of things, I guess, but when that happened to my fixture, it was the ballast. Just be careful to get the correct type when you get a new one. There are lots of different types for different bulb types, and wiring configurations. But it doesn't take a genius to be able to wire a new one back in as long as you have a wire cutters and a few wire nuts. Good luck!

I was wondering, did anyone change the starter before and did it make the light work again? Maybe, the whole right flourecent fixture light is broken and that is why it is not working? Was wondering, anyone have luck on replacing that and did it come back to life..

Yes, I had a light with a bad starter. Couple of bucks and 10 seconds later it was fixed. However, I don't think you have a starter problem. There is probably only one starter on your light, correct? If so, neither light would work if the starter was bad. Did you try a new bulb or exchanging the existing bulbs to rule the bulbs out? If so, it's probably the ballast. It's not too hard to take the fixture apart to remove the ballast. Take to HD or Lowes for a replacement. If you are a little uncomfortable, take a picture or draw a diagram so you will know how to reassemble.

Oh thanks...My light has two starters, the one in the right and left..I will go to Wal Mart to buy the starter and if it does not work, I can always return it..

If you look at the ballast and it has black stuff oozing out of the corners its probably bad. You can usually smell a burned ballast also. From my experience they usually just quit working all at once.

No luck on replacing the starter to see if the light can come back to life..:( But the good news is that I went to the place where I keep all my fish junk and tried to see if my other 48 inch flourcent light top lights work..It did not work before and I thought they were junk..Well I plugged one up, and find out one of them works..Well that one is going to my other 55 gallon..Dam a flourcent light sure is better than the regular light bulb top..

when any kind of flourcent light unit goes it usually is the ballast. Much easier to swap on a fish tank than one in the ceiling. They run about $10-$15 at homedepot or lowes. Just take it out and bring it with you.
