I realized last night that the heaters weren't on ... uhm ... never plugged back in from the partial water change days ago! The water was down to 71F. What can I say. Fortunately the fish seem fine - I imagine it can get even colder than that in the wild, but then these are spoiled fish....constant temperature (usually), regular meals, clean water ...
(Maybe I'm losing it? ... gave myself a stern talking to) ;-(

Well, just turn le heaters back on. I'm fairly certain that 71*f is within most fish's "We're cool" levels of temperature.

Yeah, most tropical fish will survive a short dip down 60 and many can go cooler than that. 71 is not a problem at all.

That is exactly why I don't unplug heaters when I do WCs. I have a memory like a sieve, and I would be in the same boat - unheated !!

I've broken heaters by not unplugging them during water changes. Refilling puts cool water on potentially hot glass which would cause it to break. So it's a safety precaution for some types of heaters to unplug them during waterchanges.

I did the same thing maybe a month ago but luckily caught it the next day. I was worried but everything ended up working out.
