OK I made a huge (I think) mistake lastnight. I did a major water change in a 10 gallon tank. Before I had water in it that was around 7.1 ph. Unfortunately I didn't think that earlier this week I reset the water softener and didnt turn it off the day before. Apparently the water softener radically changes the ph...the ph out of the tap and currently in tank is around 8.3 now....I have turned off the softener and will change water again tomorrow ( time it takes the water heater to empty - by normal use). Do you think the wild ph ride will be to hard on the one occupant (a highly stressed out Angel fish....I rescued him from a 1 gallon tank this week that my neighbor had (another story all together) or would it be better to leave water in tank now for a few days to not shock fish so drastically?
