Yesterday, I posted about how my guppy was acting strange. Today, she was hiding and her vent was very swollen. Where I usually see her gravid spot, it is very red and inflamed. I contacted a couple of different stores and they said she either had a hemorrage or a bacterial infection. I contacted a vet for antibiotics and was given water-soluble tetracycline. I placed the guppy in a 1/2 gallon betta tank with uncycled tap water with Cycle and Aqua Plus. I put in a tiny filter that came with a 2 gal goldfish kit. I placed a small glass in the tank to give her somewhere to get away from the fast-flowing water. Now for the kicker, upon removing her from the 20 gal tank...I dropped her on the floor! She has had a bleed inside her head and it had stained into one of her gills. And, she's swimming around fine.

This is the first sick fish I've ever had and, admittedly, I am using her as somewhat of a guinea pig for curing. One of the fish guys I spoke with said it's just a guppy, chop her head off. I know I've done just about everything wrong with her, what should I have done? What should I do?

Yikes:(

Well, I am sure all of us at one time or another has done somethign with our fish that we weren't the happiest about...all you can do is learn from this, keep her water as clear and healthy as possible and watch her closely.

A good learning experience. Every issue we have like this grows us that much more in the hobby....don't feel so bad SofS !

Keep her in quarenteen in very clean water with added aquarium salt...1 teasp per gallon. It discourages bacteria and helps in gill function. Feed her up on some good foods...live or frozen...and see what happens.

If she makes it GREAT ! You've learned something !

If she doesn't make it...oh well.....you've STILL learned something !

This is a can't loose situation...for you anyway...maybe not for the fish though... ;)

Thanks, guys. I am definitely looking at this like a learning experience whichever way it goes. That's why I'm asking for others' opinions--to learn what to do or not to do next time. (Lesson #1: Don't drop fish on the floor! :duh: )
As the fish guy told me today, it's only a guppy. The main reason I didnt put her in the freezer immediately was to try and learn about quarantining, medicating, etc. The odd thing is she's swimming around like she's fine. I mean for all she's been through today, she should be looking sicker. She has a closed head injury for gawd's sake. Tough little fishy. Anyway, all I can do now is let her be and see how she does.
