Opinons on Magnum 250 HOT

tackful, your best off just setting it back there dry and moving the aquarium to accordingly for the room you will need with the tank half full or empty. A ten gallon is pretty easy to shift around.

I used to measure for HOBs but Iv leaned that you need to have a feel for whatever you plan to put behind a tank so at tank placement I always place and remove the largest HOB Ill be using and reaching for, be it overflow box, canister, or power filter. However 5.5" should be plenty.

Very nice Fishrod. It amazes me the care and detail you planted guys go through to reproduce nature. Its cool to see that the versatility of the Hot mag can be outflow adapted for even this.

Funny becasue I have been trying to minimize equipment usage and I found that removing all the outflow adapters above the water line (cut) on both the Hot mag and Mag 350 allows for a strait down heavy bubble stream allowing me to remove my power heads and still maintain O2 (Ox) at between 7-8 PPM. Point is it just shows the DIY versatility of this filter, if your the kind of person who can move beyond box stock instructional application.
 
seeing that pic made me miss my old HOT mag! lol. i had, at one time about 20 tanks of varrying sizes from a betabowl, to a 4ft by 4ft, 220 galon square tank that only had 4 fish in it and was OVERCROWDED beleive it or not! ocourse the 4 were a foot long pluss reglar ol pleco a silver arrowana a yr old and well over two foot, a clown knife about two ft pluss one heck of a red tailed catfish that now resides in the aquarium of the americas in new orleans (das newahlenz for all you non-cajun an non-southern folk, yes its said as a single word roun here anyhow lol) the hot did all water polishing in all of my tanks and it was great at the jib. about 2 or 3 hours on a 100g tank and it made a noticable differance in the water. ocourse it took a bit longer on the 220! i wont say i was the best, or even a good for that matter, fishkeeper before i got it..rofl, but between my hot mag and my python sooooooomehow...i quit killin fish! the little diatom filter is great for geting your water to the "sparkling" clarity that soooo many of us strive for but never achieve. (yes i know my spellin is horrific iznt it!) not sure how they do on bioload realy tho cause it never stayed on any tank longer than a day except for the 220 and it had an old emperor 350 and a huge sump on it as well so they perty much handled the bio. anyways good luck with whatever you decide!

So on average how long does the micron cart last in the tank before clogging, how long do you bleach them in 4 water to 1 bleach, how many bleachings before the micron wares out, and how does it ware out (fall apart)?

Since you have the experience its valuable info IMO.

They do not last long at all. A few days at best---depending on junk in tank. I only use the micron cartridge when I need "water polishing".

I do not use the bleach way of cleaning the filter. I do not use the micron filter often and I buy them by the case. After use I use throw it away.

PS--I have 5 HOT Mags and am very happy with them.

PSS---The only real complaint I have is that the intake tube is so short (I have a tall 120). I had to add a tube to extend it another 5 inches.

they last at least a week in my tank before they need changed out with a fresh cart, i soak them over night in the bleach solution then rinse well and allow to air dry, i have been using most of my carts over a year and they dont show any sign of wearing out yet or falling apart. i have about 50 of these carts and all are in use and rotated so wear is pretty even and after they are bleached they look new and work great.

PSS HEY TANKER sell me your used case of micron carts :)

Cool! I guess Im going to start polishing.

I had a huge 2 foot by 4 foot cart looked just like the magnum cart only monster size when I lived in VA for my above ground 26' pool. They told me I had to replace it every year but I power washed mine every season and it lasted 7 years until I sold the house in 04 LOL.
 
I have some cartridges that are over 15 yrs old....they do not clog any faster than a new one.

I just picked one of these up with the Biowheel attachment. If I remove that, where will my bio filtration come from if I'm replacing the carbon/floss in the filter basket?
