DO NOT use the melafix. She's likely trying to fight off the sores on her fins right now anyway, and adding meds to the tank might just make her worse. She needs all the good bacteria in her system that she can get to help her fight off infection.

I'll say this again - she needs to see a vet. A vet will be able to pinpoint the problem, be it bacterial, gastrointestinal, swimbladder, etc. You can find one using aquavetmed.info and searching by state.

The only other option for you right now is to build her some sort of sling that is weighted at the bottom and buoyed at the top. That's going to take a lot of effort on your part, and it could work for her, but I still think she needs a vet's help. I don't think it's bacterial and you've already tried peas, so I think we can rule out gastrointestinal too. She's still feeding and acting normal, so I'd wager it's a genetic swimbladder problem.

Best of luck, and keep us updated.

I know you said she needs to sees a doc but my husband just was diagnosed with a chronic illness and i can barely pay his bills so im stuck doing whatever I can at home for her
Shes eating well (the jungle food stuff) I feed her though. She cant turn herself right side up but with momentum she can swim a little

i'm so sorry, pezzy, that's awful - sick husband and sick fish at the same time!

then your best bet is to keep the towel on the surface of her tank to keep her belly wet. you may want to look up a vet in your area and at least call them. they may recommend a treatment that i'm unfamiliar with - but I would keep an eye on her and keep feeding her. you could get a breeder trap - the clear plastic or net kind that secures to the side of the aquarium with suction cups - and stick it to the glass upside down. put her inside so it holds her under water. that will keep her wet and also somewhat isolated so she has less trouble feeding and such.
there's a great article about swimbladder problems here:
http://thegab.org/Articles/Buoyancy.html

and a fantastic thread (though long, it's worth reading) about a goldfish who recovered from swimbladder issues here. the link directs you to a page where they describe making slings for goldfish with swimbladder problems. lots of good links there to photos and diagrams.

best of luck with your fish and your husband too! keep us updated.

This isn't much help for the most serious part of this, but... Those red streaks in the fins aren't directly caused by the infection, blockage, disease, exposure, or whatever else might be ailing your fish. The streaks show where blood vessels have broken down and this comes from the extreme stress and exertion she's under as she constantly struggles to right herself all the time only to roll around again. A secondary issue, obviously, but that's not what needs your immediate attention. Fin tissue will break down too from stress, pain, anxiety. If you can correct the life-threatening condition (somehow), the blood streaks will go away by themselves... fins grow out again, too... on their own.

I can't help determine what the major problem is. But at this point, the distress alone that she's in because of it is enough to cause death. She needs relief fast.

yeah but how am i supposed to give her relief? Ive put the towel and she stays all under water now which is great for her belly cuz it hasnt gotten worse at least but it also hasnt gotten better. Im also feeding her Jungle Labs Antibacteria food

yeah i was just reading that long link you sent me about "Gock" Im going to be trying the sling for her very soon
