ordering shrimp

ok, so i found a good deal on some cherry shrimp and i'm ordering them on friday. :drool: they go for like six bucks a pop(for tiny juvies) around here so i was really excited to find 35 for $30 shipped to canada. anyways, i'm putting them in with my kuhli loaches and i just want to make sure they'll be ok. i also have a small pleco in there and a few neon tetras. those guys shouldn't eat them right? is there anything i should do to get the tank ready for them?
 
is the tank heavily planted? if there are fish in there...that is definitely one thing i would do. i had cardinal tetras pester my cherry shrimp for the longest time until i took the cardinals out.

One thing to keep in mind, just about any fish can stress dwarf shrimp. You may not have any problems, but keep an eye on how the shrimp behave. If they constantly stay under cover, and rarely venture out into the open, the shrimp may be stressed enough to drastically shorten their life span.

If u can please try and get a species only tank for the shrimp they will develop much better.
 
I keep mine with kuhlis, neons, cherry barbs, boeseman's rainbows and they seem to be fine. I'm sure one or two must get eaten from time to time but I still have live ones. I think having some clumps of java moss also helps; it gives them hiding places. And it'll give the baby shrimp places to hide.

I just bought a small pleco today which will also be going into that tank. Right now it's in quarantine so I can't tell you whether it eats shrimp or not.
 
hmm...so they might not like my tank. would they be okay in a 2 gallon betta tank w/o filter? naw. i don't wanna put them in there. i will just have to hope they like it i guess cause i'm not allowed any more tanks right now because i just got a new one and upgraded one so hubby put his foot down...for now. the tank is not that heavily planted but there's a lot of hiding spots. i wanted to put them in there because the kuhli's hide all day while the light is on and the tank looks empty. i am going to try to order some plants at the same time as i order the shrimp and if i can't i'll get a few more from lps before they come and hope that they are happy. maybe they will like it in there like nick's shrimp do.
 
wait, i could put them in the betta thing. would that be better?
 
With out a filter, no, but with a filter maybe, but not all 35. Putting 35 cherry shrimp into a betta tank without filter will cause them to die faster and also prevent them from breeding often due to the large population in a small tank.
 
try going to petsmart and getting a 10 gal for 10$, it's cheap. I suggest maybe a temporary tank while your 10 gal is cycling. fill it with RO water and you should be fine for a few days, until the spikes... put in a filter t decrease the chance
