Hi,

Can you help me identify that oscar?
I guest that their must be different type of oscars, or is it just different coloration/pattern?

He is originating from Brazil.

Thank You

it just seems to be a wild oscar, though i have seen fish like this sold as jamaican chocolate oscars.

Different coloration. Looks more closely colored to an F0 than a tank bred and raised. Could be F1. If he is coming from Brazil it is a very real possibility.

It looks like a wild Oscar to me.The different colors you see in the ones in pet stores are from selective breeding. There really are not different types of Oscars, just different colors.

Ok, thank you.

You are right, it was wild caught in Lago Serra da mesa, Goias, Brazil

Could not be more wild than that, the little bugger bites my lure while i was fishing for tucunare (peacock bass).

Don't worry he got back in the water in good shape, even tho i would have like to bring it back home and keep im in a tank...

could have been a crassipinis thts true! tbut theyr not really different just slightly smaller than ocellatus. i would have kept that thing!

Didn't see any bars, but maybe their was? he was pretty slimy and i didn't want to manipulate him too much as that "slime" protect them.
He was about 12inch long. I would have loved to keep him but that was impossible, still in Brazil for 3 weeks and not sure about a fish in my carry on luggage, hehe maybe if i could have make him fit in a 100ml liquid container...

If they rate their own species they are indeed different. Otherwise they'd be categorized as a race of ocellatus.
