Oscar in 75 gal. tankmate?

With my oscar, I have a green sev, Geo. "Bahia red", 6 clown loaches, a sailfin pleco, and an ornate bichir. That's in a 150 though.

Btw, I'm actually looking to downgrade from the 150 for a little while (about to graduate from college and the next couple years will probably involve moving around and getting married, so I'd prefer to have more portable tanks.), so if you would be interested in a free albino tiger oscar around 11", he's all yours. I'm about an hour and a half north of Cincy, but I could probably meet somewhere closer.

ive kept severums with my past oscars, but in a 75 they would all get faily large, so you would have to upgrage there gallons shorty

I've had that problem in the past before. But If I could make a suggestion, you could get an african Black knife, Discus fish, or a redtail-shovelnose CF.

I would prefer the Discus fish an addition because of their colors and they do get along with Oscars.

Those are my thoughts. :D

I've seen it work, but it definitely depends on the oscar. Mine is a big baby, so it would probably work, but some oscars are mean.

i've had my oscar grow up with a paratilapia polleni. they get along pretty good with just a bit of chasing now and then. the oscar is currently at 11 inches (TL) and the polleni is around 8/9 inches (TL). from what i've read, pollenis max out around 10 inches, and have a slightly slower growth rate than oscars. my polleni went from about 4/5 inches to his current size in a year and a half.

paratilapia pollenis are also known as black diamond cichlids, from madagascar, and are endangered in the wild. such a gorgeous fish and i'm honoured to have the opportunity to keep one.

Pretty crazy how much those black diamond cichlids look like Black Crappie ^

If this is what they indeed look like, just googled them.

Thanks for the very generous offer, I especially love the albino's. (Though the one I kept for 5 years, was a reg red oscar)

I prefer to raise them though, especially if I'm getting him any kind of tankmate. If your that close to Cincinnati though, there is a place called Aquatics & Exotics (http://www.aquaticsandexotics.com/) That will give you a good chunk of store credit for a Oscar that size. (If they have the space for it, call and ask). It's really an amazing place if You've never been, its like going to an aquarium. That's where I took mine and a few other fish when I moved into my old place, with bad floors, had to get rid of my large tanks.

yep Jimmy, that second photo you posted is a polleni, male i believe, due to the slight 'humping' on top of the head. i'd love to have a whole tank full of them but alas, they are aggressive towards con-specifics.

Yeah, I understand that. I got this guy when he was around 3" to watch him grow up. As far as tankmates go though, he's great. I actually had him with my festivum pair (about 2.5" and 4") for about 6 months and they did great.

Thanks for the heads up on that store. I do have a membership to the Newport Aquarium, so I might give this place a call and stop by on my way down. I have a handful of fish I'm trying to get rid of in the next few months.

Msjinkzd brought up a very good fish for oscars. I love polys very interesting when you get a tank stocked with predatory fish only. Also you could add angel fish, or smaller to medium types of catfish. sliver dollars work very active amd if your Oscar gets bored like mine uses to he'll have fun chasing them around. The EBJD is also and goo choice but won't work unless you have a specimen that's around 4-5+in
