I just purchased a common oscar from an all tropical fish store here in AZ. No fish in the tank that i chose from appeared sick or anything disease wise. The oscar i got kept ramming itself into the side of the bag on the 20 mile drive home. By the time i got him home he was just lieing on the bottom of the bag. I acclimated him to my tank water. I placed him in my tank and he just sank to the bottom. He hasnt moved much in 24 hours. I did walk in the room to see him swimming at middle level. As soon as he saw me he dropped back down to the ground again. He has been faintly breathing ever since. Does anyone know if he may have knocked himself stupid by hitting the side of the bag?

Sounds like he is just stressed out a bit from the transport is all.
Give him some time to get use to his new surroundings. Oscars are smart fish and will recognize who their owers are....or I should say who the source of food comes from LOL Give it a few more days and see if he comes around.
Before you know it, you'll come up to the tank and he will "beg" you to feed him!

I wouldn't worry about it ,O's are famouse for pouting and pitching an attitude

misbehaving oscars
if your still worried, try adding just a bit more salt to his water than usual. Perk him up with those electrolytes - Gatorade is good for you. I had a betta that did the same thing after he jumped out of the tank as i was changing the water. He fell on the floor. For two months he was more lame than a bump on a driftlog. Once i took him out of the tank, added a bit more salt to his jar, and started giving him personal attention to him he perked right back up in about a week.

Yeah i agree now. 3 times now at night the light in the tank is off but there is just enough light in the room to see him. I walk in and see him swimming around no problem as soon as he sees me though its down to the bottom leaning on his side against the tank. He has a little attitude hehe!!
