oscar sticky?

as far as table salt, i have read that only non-iodized salt is to be used with aquarium fish.

i think that the right ratio of salt to water may help the fish to secrete more slime coat, which would coat whatever wound he may have better, and aid in causing said wound to heal, but it is still my personal practice to go with just super clean water when a fish has an injury, if that injury is not deep/long/life threatening. the salt is an irritant that causes the fish to secrete more slime, so it is probably irritating to the fish, IMO.

i used to use a small amount of aquarium salt in my betta tanks, but stopped about four months into fishkeeping, as per the advise of many other hobbyists and members on various forums, AC included. i did not notice any difference in my fishes health or behaviour when i stopped adding salt to the water. i have had a few losses of fish over the past couple of years, but those were due to illness (dropsy and vision problems) and the odd diy filter attachment mishap, not due to the fact that i stopped adding salt.

well his wounds are on his fins, he had new wounds when i got home today half of one of his fins was missing. i have no where else to put him and i never see the other picking on him but his wounds suggest other wise, so what can i do?

a few options:

1. take him to an lfs in your area as soon as you can. most lfs (well, maybe not the big box stores) will take in a fish, but idk about an injured one.
2. if you know of a local fish club, ask there.
3. you could put mr oscar up on craigslist, but be sure to tell adoptive prospects that the fish is injured.
4. buy another tank and be prepared to do a fish in cycle. mr oscar can move in there.
