oscar tank mates

i am going to start cycling a 75 gal in a few days (i have established filters, substrate, and am going to add a few gal of old water on water change day) and am going to do a fishless cycle. i wa just wondering how many rubber nose plecos could go well with the oscar. i was thinking 2-4. ideas?

Depends on how big the Oscar is and how big the plecos are. A large Oscar can and will eat a small rubber-lip pleco. And to be honest, plecos are poop machines and you will already be the proud owner of the biggest poop machine out their; The Oscar!

I absolutely HATE Plecos!:mad2: All they do is poop and hide. You NEVER see them and when they do come out, the slightest noise makes them scamper back into hiding. If you want tank mates for your Oscar, black sharks, Jack Dempseys or buttokeferis are ideal.

That might be true about common plecos, but there many attractive plecos out there that are great and welcome additions to many tanks.

until the shark outgrows the tank, the JD decides it doesn't want to have a tankmate anymore, or the butti does what it does naturally - grows up and kills everything it can reach. good choices!

also, if that is the experience you're having with plecos, you might want to try and feed them once in a while, or offer more hiding places. or don't keep them with inappropriate tankmates.
