Oscar Tank?

75 gallons will suffice for a single oscar until it reaches maturity at 13 or so inches. in my opinion, at that time it needs 110 gallons.
 
this is a debatable subject. i have seen 2 foot long oscars healthy in a 55. i consider a 55 to be the minimum for a single oscar. bigger is always better. i think a 75 is very ample for a single oscar for its entire life, no need to go bigger, but bigger is always better. oh, and bigger is always better.
 
dayum a 24" OSCAR I WANNA SEE THAT !!!!!!! i myself havent seen one over 18" and that would be really pushin it but i guess its all possible. anyway like was said earlier at bare minimun a 55 gallon but keep in mind oscars have the potential to reach 18"-24"(lol). and its gonna get kinda tight for swimmin space in a lil old 55 gallon. not to mention my god u would have to do alot of water changes and gravel cleanings once it gets to maturity. so IMHO i would say atleast a 90 gallon long would suffice for one oscar and u can put maybe 2 other smaller but hadry tankmates with the oscar.
 
i thought about rephrasing that part, but i figured people would assume i meant 2, one foot long oscars. not a 2 foot long oscar. i will believe 18"+ when i see proof, which i have yet to find.
 
my 55g is 13.5 wide not much better than 12

i dont have an oscar in it though

lol come to think of it all i have in my 55g right now is a femle betta and 4 1 inch cories. these are temp fish though. ive narrowed it down between CA cichlids and a native species tank.
 
fish dont stay perfectly straight as they turn around. my foot long jaguar cichlid has no trouble turning around in his 55. they need to come out with a new shape for 55s. they need one that is the same height, but is only 3.5' long and 15" wide. that will allow slightly longer fish to be comfortable, without cutting down on gallonage, and the loss of half a foot of length would be almost ineffective to the fish.
