What kind of fishes make good tankmates for oscars? I was thinking about getting a type of catfish. I have my oscar in a 30 gallon tank as of right now but planning to upgrade to 75.

I have 2 O's with 1 greenterror and a common placo. It would be advised to upgrade to the 75 asap so you can add whatever tankmates you decide. Its best to add the fish while the Oscars are still young, they can become very territorial and may not tolerate new additions later on.

How big is your tank? Did the oscars fight alot in your tank because I had a friend who had two baby oscar in his 30 gallon and as they got bigger the bigger one would always pick on the smaller one. The smaller one would always stay at the bottom or at the top by the filter,so he gave the smaller one away.

well a 30 is way to small for 1 of those fish in the first place so them fighting is because of the stupid high stocking levels. stupid high stocking = stupid high agression in my opinion. species tank is still way better and this way there won't be any agression problems.

I have had oscars for many years with a variety of fish - plecs, green terrors, JDs, severums, peacock bass, tin foil barbs, sun cats, etc. I have never had any problems, provided the tanks are large. Virtually all oscars I have had are on the big-show but wimpy side. Species tanks are great, and that is how my breeder tanks are set up, but there still can be alot of aggression in species only tanks, depending on the species in question and the situation (e.g. breeding time). IMO, I wouldn't add anything until you have the 75 (or larger) tank.

My GT gets a lont with my male convict 5in. and my female TX Cichlid 6in. The GT is a male about 8in now.
They are in a 90 at the moment.

Best to get a 90gl or better if you want tankmates for your 'O'! Extra filtration is also a must. Some catfish get extremely large so reasearch max adult size before choosing. Good Luck!
