ive had my oscar for about three weeks and all night tonights hes been going up to the top of the tank and like jumping at the lid like hes pist off at somthin .....and then lookin at me and then hitting it agin .....whats going on ? any ideas thanx he the only one in the 125 tank at the moment

When was the last time you fed him? What are the water temps? Have you checked for ammonia/nitrate/nitrite/PH levels? If he's not happy it's likely one of these things.

get the the levels and i tell ya what to do, unless hes jsut bored and lonely,

Definitely post your water specs but if everything is normal, with Oscars everything can be perfect and they'll still behave like this sometimes. In humans is called personality, maybe we can call this fishyality??

He's probably just bored.

Some live food might help, not a lot or a habit but as a treat (after the appropriate quarrantine). If he's big enough, toss in a small cat or two for him to "play" with. JUST KIDDING!!! I would never give my Oscars just ordinary cats.... again, JUST KIDDING.

In Deland, there is a place on 17-92 (across from Bondeson auto dealership) that sells crayfish for $0.49/ea. They call em fresh water lobsters for fun, but my O's love 'em. It actually gives them something to chase. Just make sure your rocks are secure 'cause they'll really go after them.

well water specs are as follows.....amonia...0..nitrite..0 nitrate....less than 10ppm as an update i fed him again when he was doing that ...and he stopped so i guess he was just gettin a big appitite lately or somthin ? how much would a nomal oscar eat? hes about 5 inches ///thanx

he will eat everything and anythign you put in the tank.

I would probaby be careful about feeding him when he slams the tank lid...he may start using it like a bell calling a servant!! lol :D :D

I've heard a lot of the Oscar would do something like this to entertain him/her self. There are some Oscars that will attack the heater and send it flying into the air just because they either want some attention, bored out of their mind, or just plain hungry.
