My Oscar "Dude" has a persistant sore on his chin. It is caused by him slamming into the glass and redecorating his house. It doesn't bother him he eats well and is very social it bothers me more than him. Anyone know how I can treat it with out treating the whole tank with meds???

I would try to medicate with melafix. I have had wonderful luck with the product after I bought my Common Puffers (tetradon cutcutia). They had nipped eachothers tails at the LFS and within a week the wounds had completely healed.

The best and most effective "treatment" would be a larger aquarium. However, if this "sore" is not infected and he is behaving normally it could just be comparable to a callous. If so he won't win any beauty contests but it probably won't kill him.

Yes a larger aquarium would be nice but that would not stop him from slamming into the side of the tank and begging for food every time some one walks by.

No I did not feed it to the fish. It is a liquid medication and it also is not very expensive so I do not see how it is a waste. If you are going to keep fish you have to care for them but like Beasts said, it probably will not hurt him to just leave it as is. However, if the sore does not heal over and "callous" itself, it could turn into a larger open area, which would eventually effect his eating.

The proverbial bottomless pit, eh! I suppose he could also be defending his territory.
