I'm planning on setting up a 75 GAL tank in the near-ish future for an oscar. I'm planning on putting a featherfin Syno in there (grows big enough to hold it's own, and isn't another cichlid) and maybe a green terror. I bought the GT as a blue acara, but I'm becoming more and more sure it's a GT. It's still only maybe 3" long. Has anyone had any experience and/or luck with that combination? I don't want to do it if seems like a bad idea, but the GT can't stay in his current tank for good (only a 38gal) and I would like to keep it if possible. The GT also isn't really being that agrressive either (maybe because it's young?) Thanks for the help ;)

P.S.- I'm probably going to go overkill on the filtration.

well it seems like u have the gt already so why not have the GT, featherfin....and maybe a firemouth or jewel cichlid with places for it and the catfish to hide

My 4in green terror beat my 7in oscar so bad he never recovered. They had been fine for a few weeks, then I came in from work one evening and found the oscar literally torn to shreds. I have the GT in my 55gal with a large plecostamus and that'll be it for that tank.

Thinking the Green Terror will beat on the Oscar. Have a GT in my 55 keeping my Jack Dempsey under controll. I tryed an Oscar and he kept sulking in upper corners of the tank. So i got rid of it and got a Firemouth to distrack the push and shove liplocking.. The Oscar was alot messier an eater than the 3 combined,a 75 is still small for that crew. Im skipping to a 125 very soon..

Thanks for the info. After closer examination, I'm still not sure if I got a blue acara or a GT. It's still pretty young, I think.

Your tank is too small for all those fish

Your tank is too small for all those fish. I have a 215g with a GT, Jack and Oscar and they do fine. Along with some some bottom feeders (Syn, pleco, 2-Cory). They need space and your small tank will not offer that as they grow to 8"+ for each of them. I have found that even with only 2 of these they tend to fight, but add a third and they do better. The GT will eventually be the top fish, at least that is what I have seen. The Oscar and JD are not that aggressive.

Good luck. You are always better under stocking as compared to packing them in and having loss of lives.

did your gt look like this because i also brought mine as a blue acara but i am becoming more n more sure that its a gt too..

the only difference is that it has yellow fins instead of orange!
i've never seen this before!

I have a full grown female GT in with my full grown female Tiger Oscar and they get along just fine. The Tiger Oscar rules the pecking order so no problems. However, if your GT is a male, there's going to be ALL KINDS of problems in the tank.
