may want to count how many feeders are in there so youll know if he has eaten any. probably to weak to chase them. what about trying to target feed him by waving food in front of his face so he doesnt have to chase it?

Most oscars go through a stage of shyness when they are moved to a new environment.

They sulk in the corners, lay on the bottom of the tank, etc... My money is on the oscar making it, and acting normal in a day or so.

Hold off on feeding until he swims around the tank more.

No, no melafix.. no meds what so ever... you want to push him over the edge? Sometimes the best medicine to do is simply 'nothing' but the bare minimum. The shock alone of moving from poor (very poor) conditions to basic good water Q can be good but also leathal - depends on how long he was kept so poorly. At any rate - good water Q and aeration would be the first place to begin trying to encourage his recovery. No food unless he behaves as if he's hungry (you know, that cute puppy begging they do), and no added stressors - like useless (unappropriate) meds such as melafix (i.e.: lets add some snake oil that coats his gills so he can't process O2 (this includes 'stress coat') or add some chem like Primafix that taxes his kidney's for not). If he shows improvement in a couple of days, assess his health and if, only if, he appears to have parasites or the possibility of a bacterial infection (minor scrapes/abrasions/finrot/etc) begin to treat - with the appropriate medicine!

If you 'feel' you must do something to make 'yourself' feel better - add salt to 0.3% (table salt will do in a pinch)... no more than 1 week then bring the level down to below 0.1%.

Feeders? what were you thinking? Never mind... I know - but it was wrong - sick/stressed fish won't eat and tempting them is fruitless - those feeders only add to the bio load - remove them.

He may already be dead,... and if so - sorry, atleast you tried. If not... do you're best to get him better, a little tlc and fresh water with optimal oxygen levels... this can do wonders if he has the strength to carry on. O's are pretty hardy and tend to 'pout' if they are not feeling well.

^^ well he ate the fish, there are only 2 i have seen this morning (tanks dark) but i did have to remove a tail...good sign. and he is swimming around a little. should i go with the medicine or not? hes got a few scales missing...so i think it needs something. when i get home im going to check my water params...

thanks everyone. im pretty happy, he was swimming around the tank last night, maybe because it was dark? but either way hes doing better! im keeping a very close eye on him. which isnt hard because the tank is right behind my bed.

Just keep doing what your doing and do small daily water changes. At this point a lot of small ones will be better because it will stress the fish less. Good job! Keep us updated.

ok, im going to get some food for him now, not feeder fish either. i guess ill hold off on the meds.

1) when will more fish be able to go in?
2) what do u guys reccomend?
3) can they be smaller than him by a little amount? or will he just dominate and be mean then?
4) anything else u can let me know?

i just did a small water change also. hes looking good. swimming around the tank more. on all sides, might not sound like much but its 6' long. also i hear they like to hide a lot, and he has been, so i added more plants and hiding spots.
