If adding salt to a freshwater aquarium reduces stress in freshwater fish, does adding freshwater to a saltwater tank have the same positive effect on marine fish?

I don't think that it does. There are FW dips for parasites, but, for the most part, your fish will be stressed by the addition of FW (unless you are merely replacing evaporated water).

Chil is right--lowering your specific gravity will help with some external parasites, but is very stressful to fish in the long run, and lethal for invertebrates. Of course, I don't support using salt in a FW tank all the time, but rather just for treating specific symptoms.
