Ok, this requires a bit of disclaimer.
I am aware that a 5" pleco in a 20 gallon tank with 3 VERY small goldfish is in the wrong place. But he lives there, and he can't go into my 10 gallon, and my 55 isn't set up yet.

But in the meantime, I'm trying to feed the little turd algae wafers, as he has never really been fed period. It's kind of odd, I know, but my mother-in-law kept it in the tank OUTSIDE with no lid, no lights, no heater, almost no substrate, about 12" of older goldfish, and a filter made for a 5 gallon tank:banher:. But they never once fed the pleco. He just lives somehow:huh:.

But the goldfish love the wafers! And the pleco is really inactive and cautious, so I tried feeding the goldfish before I drop the wafer, and he just sits there(as plecos are wont to do) and they eat like starved POWs and then turn on the wafer.:wall:

How does one keep the other fish from eating the wafer before your pleco does??

I bet that pleco will be glad to get into the 55G tank! Try dropping a wafer in after you turn the tank lights off. Just make sure there isn't enough light on in the room where the tank is that would enable the goldfish to see good enough to eat in the semi-dark, cause they will!

Try feeding him some courgette (zucchini).

I do, he loves it, but only after it's a little old. He is the Swamp Lord, though.

But I thought an exclusively zucchini diet wouldn't be so good for him?

I had one for 3 years, I never feed him anything

because he eat flakes, maybe your eat flakes too?

I have a similar problem with my cichlid eating the wafers, but my pleco has solved the problem himself by eating cichid pellets. I also drop the wafers where the pleco can get them but it's hard for the other fish. Do you drop the wafer at the same time as the fakes, maybe if the goldies are busy eating flakes they'll leave the wafer alone.

I have the same problem with my bottom feeders and clown loaches, but mine adapted. It eats flakes that I submerge in the water and I'm going to have cucumber slices neat the outlet of the powerhead so other fish wont be bale to eat it.
