Other fish to keep with fancy goldlfish

I personally don't agree with keeping plecos in unheated goldifsh tanks. Plecos are from the Amazon, about as tropical as it gets.

Another problem with certain plecos or other sucker type fish is they can harm the goldfish. Instead of sucking off algae from the glass and hardscape, they go after the goldfish's slime coat. Guess that tastes yummier to them than algae does. But this causes serious wounds on the body of goldfish. Open sores, infection, and all the rest.

I don't know how I forgot that one. One of mine lost an eye to a rubberlip, which is considered 'safe' with goldfish. But a lot of people have found them and the bristlenose to be safe. But even if they won't bother them, the temp is an issue.

The tank is heated. I keep it at 68 to 70 degree. Yes it is at the low end for bristlenose but I don't think it is overly cold. I just turned the thermometer up one degree. It is always under the driftwood, never bothers the goldfish. My other tank is a 72G at 79 degree. Will the bristlenose be happier there?

I definitely want to add a few more whiteclouds. How about I move the bristlenose (I know I'll need to adapt it to the warmer tank) then add 6 corys as well?

Move the bristlenose, but the cories are also amazonian. A dojo loach would be a better option.

Really the only other fish that should be kept with goldfish are other kinds of goldfish, and koi. Goldfish are very dirty, and even white clouds have different needs than goldfish. I have 15 white clouds in a 10 gallon. they're the only fish in the tank. SO I would not reccomend any others in the tank except your goldies. I think your tank would be too small for koi though. So I would say only goldfish.

i agree with sunshinepuppies I have 11 aquariums that are just goldfish only and then I sort the types of goldfish due to different feeding needs. bubble eyes , orandas w/ large wens are seperated from the others since they have a hard time getting food if they are mixed with fan tails , moors etc since they can see and get the food alot faster. Apple snails do great in goldfish tanks and they come in alot of different colors. my 2 small ranchu's are just so curious about the large snails and just watch the snails and follow them around.

Corys also have a sharp top fin. This fin can stick into the goldfish. I have heard of corys drowning because they are unable to break loose from the goldfish.

Depending on the species of bristlenose- 79F is too warm. I have three different species of bristlenose. My sp. Pucullpa like warmer water, 75-86 °F. According to planetcatfish.com, the common bristlenose (cf cirrhosus) prefers a temperature range of 71-80F. However, according to a breeder of multiple species of bristlenose, the cf cirrhosus is more prone to infections and higher mortality at temperatures above 78F.

According to the research I have done, fancy goldfish should be kept around 76F. Several sites also suggest bristlenose as compatible with goldfish.

Personally, I keep my sp. Pucullpa with my cichlids, but I do keep a cf cirrhosus with my fancy goldfish and I keep my goldfish tank at 75F.
