Oto question

Otocinclus do best when placed in a well established tank.

meaning it's been set up for awhile.

that said they are also very sensitive and often do not fare well when first purchased.

what are the parameters of the water? how long has the tank been set up?

don't give up yet..sometimes it take awhile to get a good batch in.

I can't tell yoiu what the parameters are as I can't find an API test kit! ARGGHH! As for the tank it's been running for 6 months and I haven't lost a harlequin yet just the otos :(

I do know my ph is high around 7-7.5 but the rest is a mystery. I keep adding a bit of Prime in hopes it'll help but today I arrived to late to help my big Oto. Still have to find the 2nd one.

Worst still I can't find one of the new little guys. I looked everywhere not even a body!

Sorry to hear about your fish, make sure you find the little ones though. I had a tetra disappear in my tank, I found it half decayed in some plant roots a few days later.

I have had to pull out driftwood from my tank before to find my oto's, they like to hide underneath it, and with their dark body against the shadow of the wood they are hard to spot.

Looked all over and did a 20% water change... no dead body and no oto. the Harlequins are fine and the last oto seems ok too for now

I got the test kits I was missing from a friend who no longer has an aquarium. My readings in both tanks are: ammonia 0 nitrate 0 and ph in one is 6 the other 7.5
I think I'm on the right road I just don't know where it will lead me!

I've fed them but they didn't touch the wafer... there is a lot of algae though.
