Oto with a really chubby belly

The pic isn't the best angle, but I'd say it looks more gravid than bloated. Any chance of getting a pic of it's underside (or even a top view)? I'd drop a few shelled green peas in the tank. If it is bloated the peas may help, and if it's gravid they will make a nice treat.

oto's are pretty much vegetarian..mine have never eaten flake..they do tend to graze constantly a healthy sign from what I 've heard.

I have a large one that has a fat belly..keep an eye on the oto but it should be fine.
if you get one that spawns..that would be great..since I have not heard of any spawning in captivity

I'll see if i can get a couple more pics tonight when I get home from work. this one is almost always on the glass, so getting a pic of the underside should be pretty easy... I'll try to get a pic from the top as well, just to get the whole picture.

babies was the first idea my wife had when she saw it too. I have no idea though so I just gotta keep watching and keepign an eye on my water params. more pics tonight though ;)

I have been keeping otos for almost two years. I have 1 that looks just like that! she is just a great big pig. I watch her, in comparison to the others, she is ALWAYS grazing. just a great big pig, sometimes she will keep eating and swells up just like yours.

Otos have spawned in captivity, but to my knowledge nobody has discovered a consistent trigger. The hardest part is raising the fry, which are very delicate and can easily starve. I've had many Hisonotus (very similar to otos)spawnings but am currently batting zero with keeping the fry alive.

ok here's todays pics. sorry about the quality, I had a hard time getting the focus right. the fish is starting to get a little lethargic (I can't blame him/her as chubby as things are) and when I got home from work it had wedged itself between the back of one of my powerheads and the glass. either death is near or babies are near or both.... anyway, here they are..

oh my there has definately been some growth huh?

did you get her to eat any peas?

it certainly looks more like a pregnancy thing that constipation, could it be something awry with her swim bladder?

haven't given her any peas yet, but I might run to the store real quick and get some just in case.

from what I've been able to find, swim bladder disease usually doesn't make the fish look different, but they swim funny. She's swimming funny, but not in the way described for swim bladder problems. the way she swims she just looks too fat to move in a normal way if you can kind of picture that. Kinda like if I weighed 400 pounds and wanted to bend over to touch my toes... kinda stiff and unnatural movement.

I did find a website {http://user.it.uu.se/~mala1167/fishtank/breeding/otocinclus_vestitus.html) that had a picture thta looked similar to my fish. according to that page, it appears the fish is full of eggs. I honestly am at a loss now though and I don't know what to do next. I'm going to do a quick water test to make sure something hasn't happened to my cycle, but given the 2 water changes I've done in the last 24 hours I'm not sure if I'll find anything there.
