i have had 3 ottos for a week, and all they will eat is the algge but thats all and its not helthy, iv tryed zucinii, and bottom food, and flaks, my next step is algee waffers, what would you do
Well, you can't force them to face other foods if they refuse, Fishfiles. Where are you located? If you live in tropical areas, then you have an advantage in culturing green algae. All you need is a few white rocks, a bucket of water and a container of fishfoods. Place all the rocks inside the bucket of water and put a pinch of fishfood in it. Place the bucket under direct sunlight. Expect some green algae in a few days and use the algae-coated rocks alternately for continuous supply of algae.
Yeah I'd agree with Soobie, as long as you have enough algae, then eating only algae is perfectly healthy for otos - that is all they really are supposed to eat.
I just took it that he was afraid there wasn't enough algae, but that may or may not be the case. If you don't have much algae, the shrimp pellets are great. For the longest time, mine wouldn't touch algae becasue he liked the shrimp pellets so much. Now, he spends time on both.
Mine like both shrimp & earthworm pellets sometimes. I've rarely seen them eat zucchini. Mostly they hide. I don't clean the back glass much so there's algae at least there for them.
ok i bought the alge wafers and they eat them and i tryed to feed at night and i turned on the light at like 10 and guess what, all three of them were on the zucinni, are they night eaters??
