Yesterday, I was doing my weekly water change and after draining 60% of the water I noticed that I didn't have water conditioner :22_yikes:. My wife asked if I could wait to go to the store for a couple of hours so we can all go to the store and I didn't see any problem at all. While waiting to go to the store I kept checking on the tank for any sign of distress of anything and I noticed that my 7 ottos were swiming together on the front corner of the tank. Is kind of shocking because usually I only see 3 or 4 at the time but never all of them at the same time much less together. Any body knows if the low level of water had something to do with their "strange" behavior? Or they were just having their weekly meeting? :p:

Could have been a lack of O2? Less water with the same amount of fish = less O2 per fish. If this happens again, I would hook up several airstone, just to help with O2/CO2 diffusion.

mine all got together the other day when I updated from a 20 to a 36 it was all freshly treated water. They had been in my 10 g qt for a couple days until I got the 36 up and running.

It's not unusual for otos to do that when you've got the water level lowered in the tank. They probably couldn't get to the hidey spots where they usually hang out.

I don't think that would be the case since they "favorite spot" is a piece of drift wood that is all the way on the bottom of the tank. It was just very "strange" to see them all together.

My kuhlis tend to swarm around when I do WCs. I think sometimes it's just a panic response. In the wild, lowering water is a bad thing, so they would want to move to find deeper water.

That is what I thought, that maybe they "felt" the low level of water as a sign of "dry season is here, we are all going to die:nilly:!!!!"
