well, ever since my first one died a few months ago after only having been in the tank for 5 hours, i've been scared to try these again. But I was at the store the other day and they had what looked like a really heathy batch of them so i picked one up. he is still doing good this morning. i have my fish in a 10 gallon planted right now. my question is should I get some friends for the little guy (a couple more ottos)? how many for a 10 gallon? will they hang out together?

There's no doubt they prefer to be in groups. I have 5 in my 75g and although they don't shoal, they do like to be within a short distance of each other. You 10g could be pushing it if you add more though. Your sig doesn't give any numbers on the tetras you have in there.

seven total tetras, no other fish.

It's really up to you. I have one otto in a 30gal and he seems happy and is healthy. I also have 6 in a 90gal. that look just the same. I'm no fish psychologist or anything though. I doubt one ottos will cause any serious upset in your tank. They can be finicky eaters and apparently most die from starvation. Veggies once in a while should prevent this. Mine love brussel sprouts and don't mind spinach either.

alright one more question... if i got a pair of blue rams (when i put my fish back in my 20 gallon), would they be okay with the ottos or would they kick their butt seeing as te rams are cichlids and all?
