We have a 55 gallon that is home to a largemouth bass. He has lived here happily for almost three years. Today he looks sick! He is still active and following us around, but seems to be weak and leaning. We have wellwater and have had a lot of rain lately increasing the hardness of our water. Could this be causing problems? We don't know much about tanks, but this is the only condition that has changed recently. Thanks for your help!:1zhelp:

Do you do frequent water changes? First of all, a large mouth bass deserves a tank of at least 100 gallons. How big is the bass right now? If you do not do frequent water changes it could be deteriorating water quality. If you can get one, you should by an API liquid test kit to make sure water quality is in check. In a tank that size the water quality could go right off the rails. It could be an increase in water hardness but this is doubtful as many largemouth bass originate in fairly hard water. Disease could be present so post pics of the bass. Are there white spots, fin erosion, fungus, or any other signs of disease?

Probably the wastes building up in the water, do a water change 50% of the tank. Do you use water conditioner? If not, get some. Do you regularly change the water? Does the tank have a filter?

He does need a tank upgrade though, I'd look into it as soon as possible. (100 gallons at the least)

Are there ANY other symptoms?
Have you added ANYTHING to the tank in the last 2 months? Some types of decor, or something?

Welcome to AC! I suggest making a post in the freshwater forums where more members will see it and be able to respond.
