i just discovered my 20 gal tank came with a packet of "stayclean aquarium wipes" by Tetra.

are these safe to use on the outer glass of my aquariums to remove water marks/etc? it says they are on the packaging, just wondering what you all use for this practice.

also, i noticed a scratch in my 46 bowfront... (guessing it's acrylic) what sort of filament can i use if any?

I don't get anything special to use on acrylic tanks. A (clean) damp washrag works fine. Make sure it's a soft one, nothing scratchy. If there's some hard water buildup somewhere, use a little vinegar in the water. That cuts right through it -- just as well as it does to clean coffee pot carafes.

Really... any clean, soft cloth would work... an old t-shirt, flannel, a sock.

cool man, thanks. any ideas how to fill scratches in the acrylic? i got the tank on craigslist and either the transportation of the tank to my old house, or from there to my new house could be the reason it is there. it's not a big deal, but i can see it.

Acrylic scratches have to be buffed out. It's a tedious process of using finer and finer "grit" with a special acrylic polishing agent. If it's not obstructing your view, don't bother with it. It's a lot of work.

Use distilled white vinegar to safely clean water marks. DON'T use it inside the tank while filled. It is safe to clean the inside when empty though. Rinse thoroughly.

^^ Thanks for adding that, Nolapete. I should have remembered to include that.

Scratches on acrylic are inevitable if you keep a tank long enough. It's really just a matter of time... I think. That's why all my good tanks are glass. No worries then.

I have some small (5 gallon) hex tanks for little critters, small fish/snails, or a betta. And one 40-gallon tank that's acrylic - but I got that cheap off Craigslist to use as a growth tank for plants and snails. So I don't really care if it stays nice or gets scratched, eventually.

haha my house keeper used windex on my 20 gallon tank... all my fishies died.... dont make the same mistake!!!!

I use Windex for the front of the glass. I pray it on a paper towel first so the fumes don't get in the fishtank.
