Over filtering???

Hi! newbie here- my girlfirend said that my fish can get sick from over-filtering of the water. Here's the scoop- my filter quit working on my 10 gal tank, so i bought another one. Meanwhile my husband fixed the old one and put it back in the tank. So now there are two filters running on a 10 gal tank.
The water is crystal clear and tests 0 ammonia 0 Nitrites.
Second question- I have turned the heater up to 75 degrees. I realized that it was set too low (at 72). I read that 78 is the best temp for goldfish and tigerbarbs. (?)

This forum is the 'bible' of fish-keeping so i will do whatever you guys say.

Your friend is mistaken. It is not possible to over-filter a tank. Biofiltration is limited by the ammonia produced by the tank's residents, so is automatically limited by the bioload. Mechanical filtration is limited by the mass of the filter media used and by the particle size captured by the media. The more media used and the finer the particle size captured, the clearer will be the tank's water.

It is possible however to have too much current in a tank for the fish and/or plants. That you will have to judge for yourself by the fish's behavior.

If the new filter is meant for only a 10 gallon tank.....i would say keep them both running.

im sure someone is going to say this, but goldfish are cold water fish and tiger barbs are tropical, so either one is cold, or the other is hot
