Hi All
I m setting up my new 75 gal and the overflow box is LOUD! I know this is a common problem with different solutions. My flow rate is 300g/hr through a 1 inch stem pipe

What solution have you used to help quite the stem pipe gurgling noise from an over-flow box? How well did they work over time?

I have added a valve on the drain line and that seems well, but of course don’t want to choke off flow too much, have any of you done this before and how is it working? Any other suggestion?

Much Thanks

stand pipes??
is the tank drilled?

Look up Durso standpipe, Stockman standpipe, and/or Hofer Gurgle Buster. All can be adapted to either an in-tank overflow box or a HOB box. Have used all three, currently using HGBs on 3 setups - one drilled tank w/ overflow box, two HOB overflows.

Ranger:

Cover the overflow box with glass or plexiglass.

Put a cap on the stem which has a 1/4" air relief hole in the top.

The above worked very well and I have not had any problems.
