over stock, double filter

It was mentioned before to increase the temp and alkalinity of the tank, but that will create a more toxic environemtn if ammonia is around in the tank.

Water changes is all you will need for the time being. You will defiantley be looking at daily to twice daily changes though.

You will need to loose one of the sharks. Red tails become aggressive as they age and will fight anything that looks similar to them. And any fish that can grow to 10 inches should be removed now, even an eel. A 29 gallon tank just won't do. You will need a minimum of a 4 foot long tank for something that large.

ok, this is what i'm doing...

Bala and Cichlid are going out to my LFS

i have a well establish 20g with 2 filters running, took the newest filter from my 29g which is not established a bac. colo. and switched it with one of my 20 filters...

so on my 29g now i have a aquaClear 70 (for 40-70g's) and a aquaclear 50 (for 30-50g's)

on my 20g i have topFin 30 and a aquaClear 40

WHAT DO YA THINK??

Well that should be plenty of filtering and water turn over. Make sure not to put fish in that liek slow water flow (bettas for example). With regular water changes and a lower fish stock your tank should be fine. Maybe adding another otto would be good (they seem to like to have company).

your tank never finished cycling - it also sounds like a disaster wating to happen - but it's a learning curve you'lll become a better aquarist from this - the baby otto is prob very lonely they are a schooling fish - alos i'm not very familiar with the eel but if it's what i'm thinking of it might make a snack out of your otto - most likely all the amonia from fish waste is being eaten by the bacteria and the nitrite is booming but there isnt enough god bacteria to then eat up the nitrite - the nitrite takes the longest to get under control

I think your right, so what i did was grab a net full ( a big net) of gravel from my established 20g and now i have the net with the gravel inside my 29g...

hopefullly this will speed things up.
