Over Stocked?

IMO you can keep the tiger barbs if you lose all other mid/top level fish.
Keep one shark (redtail or rainbow).

Go for something like:

25 tiger barbs
1 rainbow shark
6-8 cories
Maybe one or a pair of SMALL pleco/ancistrus

Also get some plants if you can - they'll help keep ammonia and nitrates down

Use the species profiles and research the fish you have and make your choices. There are many sites out there that are species specific where you can get extremely detailed info and behavior patterns. Some times the advice is affected by the aqua scape you set up and the food you do or do not feed and your water maintenance.

IMO, cut you barbs down to the 10-12 range, lose the balas and gouramis, and as has been said, only one of the RT/Albino sharks. Need more info on the corys for a recommendation. You will need to look at the adult size of the fish you keep AND their behavior patterns to judge capacity, along with bio-load.

Just curious, how long have you had this tank set up? You mention it is an unplanted tank and you are having issues keeping the water clear and you post levels of 0/0/0 (Ammonia Nitrite Nitrate). With that number of fish in the tank, and if fully cycled, IMO, you should see some nitrates, always.

I have had this setup for 3+ months. At one time it was planted, but the LFS plants are really old and went sour in my tank and made my water extreamly, so I was told. I use the Aquarium Pharma Freshwater Master Test Kit (liquid). I am going to go to the LFS today and ask if they buy fish and if not I will just give the fish to them :sad:

The Clown Loaches will get to big for a 55g they need 70g+ to live happily so I would also lose them to.I agree with momar that would be a good stocking list and a small pleco like a bristlenose will be good to. Try to put as many fake plants in there as possible as the fish will like it and you will have an awesome tank with a school of babrs that big :thm:

Only 3 months and you have that load there and you aren't sure what to keep? Did you plan this tank or just a spur of the moment thing? What kind of a cycle did you do? Fishy, fishless? Move established media over and toss in the bio-load?

Before planning on taking the fish back to your LFS, double check their return policy. Even my local independently owned FS will only take certain fish back, and they generally won't accept anything that isn't in excellent condition or in high demand. The chain stores around here will give me credit for fish if it's within a certain time period, but they throw the fish (literally) into the trash to die. Hardly fair to the fish.
Alot of cities, if you do some web-searching, will have an organization (or dis-organization in some cases) of people who will take on your problem fish and find a home for them.
