How does one tell if fry is overfed or not? I have had these molly fry for about a week now and I am feeding them the Hikari fry food with a needle tip. They all have VERY round tummies. Should I be worried?

Also, decomposing fry bodies will cause ammonia spikes right?

One of my fry was alive one night, dead the next day. My shrimp took care of the body. I never got to see if this would cause any type of spike.

My shrimp got what they could. I found some dead fry(like 4 or 5) stuck under plastic plant roots the other day when I vacuumed; could that have caused the ammonia spike that day?

I would say that it could have cause it. I know when older fish die and they start to decompose (or start getting eaten) that can cause a mini-cycle.

I see, just wanted to know for future reference. The cycle in my tank is very fragile because it is pretty new, so I want to prevent this from happening again.

Yes which is why any dead bodies should be removed immediately unless their fellow tankmates managed to eat the remnants.

I will be watching for that more carefully in the future. I did not even know they died because they are so small.

The fry are often sensitive to water conditions so definitely the water parameters along with them must be watched regularly.

Good luck.:)

Out of curiosity, what are your tank readings?
