My friend has been advised to only feed his fish one large crushed flake every other day. I think the tank is roughly 10g. They have neons, platies, danios and a couple of Corys. He has been feeding them twice a day. Is this right?
So long as they can eat all the food given to them in about two minutes or so two feedings a day should be fine. Some people will also skip a day a week as a fasting day for the fish. You don't mention how many of which fish are in the tank, but if it were me I'd also drop in a sinking wafer for the corys on the bottom.
I agree. As long as ALL of the food is getting consumed, don't be too worried about it.
Overfeeding is a big issue, sure. We have all been guilty of it at one point or another..... "Oh, look, he's begging me for food! They look so... hungry! Just one more flake so you can see it come up to the top!" and the list of excuses goes on and on
I only feed my fish every other day because my tank is *gasp* near a window and overfeeding in my case would mean green water for me, and I don't want to make that mistake again because I had to blanket my tank for 3 weeks to get rid of it....
With my cories, I just push some of the flakes down so that they sink to the bottom. My cories soon after make a pig out of themselves and eat every piece of flake and do a good job cleaning the bottom of the tank.
