Overflow box siphon tube bubble growth fix??

I need an expert opinion on this before I try something that may not work. Unlike my Tom Aquatics overflow box on my 244 tank which has a Aqua-lifting dowsing pump to suck air accumulation out of the siphon U tube, my new sump on my 210 long tank has no such remedy and as you can see in the 1st photo below the bubble is growing larger and larger in the U tube over 2 days as tiny bubbles collect. I suppose I could by another Aqua-lifting dowsing pump to attach and continually suck the air out of the tube but I think another solution is to attach 1/4 from the outflow tube to the U-tube as shown in the 2nd photo below (blue line) which theoretically will also suck air bubbles out. Anyone with allot of experiences know if this will work? At the moment Im waiting to see if eventually the siphon will be broken as the bubble grows too large, so far it been growing for almost 3 days.

I've never had any air bubbles get into my U-tube on my overflow. Sorry I couldn't be more help :( is something nearby your siphon that is causing bubbles that you could easily move to a different location (i.e. hang on skimmer, etc)

you need a faster pump if your pump was pushing enough flow thru the tube then it would push the bubble out and not collect smaller bubbles and make it grow larger. thats been my experience with u tubes and sumps. or you could as my friends do make a small hole in the top of the u tube use some crazy glue gel to set and seal a nipple in it in there then add a airline tube and connect to a aqua lifter pump i have done this on a few it works great but i just add a larger pump and get a faster flow to deal with bubbles generally.

OK. I got it now. I removed the valve off the hose connected to my Rio 2100 pond pump outflow that had a built in water flow restrictor (EPA), and that made a huge difference. The flow increasing into the overflow box and the micro-bubbles now getting sucked strait through and out the U-tube. But tomorrow im going to go buy the correct size outflow hose for the RIO 2100 which takes a 3/4" ID, Im currently using spare Python hose I had on the cheap which is only 1/2" ID. The 1/2" ID hose shoots water out like a jet pump under pressure, so increasing the size should convert that pressure into increased flow. I just hope after the increase I dont get the opposite problem and have to try and meter the pump down.

I may still buy an Aqua-lifter as insurance. Not only does it insure no siphon brake while the pump is powered but it also brakes siphon when the power dies insuring no sump overflow, and it re-starts siphon when the power is restored, that's allot of features and insurance for $15.

I saw some overflow boxes and other stuff on craiglist and I'm confused on what they are. Can you take some pictures of the "guts" of your aquariums? I browsed through your albums and especially loved the aquarium with the pots in it. That's so cool that the fish actually use them as homes! I'm guessing that once I get much larger tanks I cannot just buy one of those hang-over-the-edge filters? I'll hand to get some kind of pump that pumps water out of my tank, into another tank through some type of huge filter (half the tank full of carbon) and then back out into my tank again? Is that what a sump is? Also, what is the general consensus on those undergravel filters? I was thinking about buying one for my 40 gallon but it looks like I'd have to buy a couple and connect them?? Sorry, I'm a n00b

Extremely informative. Makes me want to sump both my tanks instead of using typical filters. The more I learn about all this, the more money I see myself spending.

Same thing Happend to me ... To some it happens in the way of Multiple Tank Syandrom (A High contagious, incurable disorder that occures when one becomes a fishkeeper, generally fowllowing the hobbyist mode of keeping a fish tank)

:hi:

Best wishes,
