Overkill on Filtration

I have a 30 XT tank, 40 pds LR w/5 chromies, 1 cleaner shrimp, a few hermits & some snails.

There's a Seaclone 100 + Millenium200 wet/dry (piece o'junk!). I just got an AC 110 for an unbelievably good price (petking.net) to replace the Millenium.

My question: I know the 110 is a bit much for a 30, but I wanted to add a few more fish (clown &/or dwarf angel and maybe a goby or 2) Do I still need the Seaclone? I also think that's a piece of junk, doesn't seem to do anything...then again I am understocked so maybe that's the issue.

I presume its a 30gallon tank..Am i correct in saying that?

If i am correct, you do not need any additional filtration like wet/dry, cannister filters etc etc as the live rock you have in the tank provides you will all the filtration you need..

You do need to have a skimmer on the system if you do not have one currently..

The equipment, or quality of, does not make any difference as to how many fish you can keep in a tank..You have to go on the acutal size of the tank, less rock and sand displacement...

So, for a 30 gal, you probably only looking at 25Gals actual water volume..5 Chromis in this size of tank is your limit in my opinion..

The more filtration you have, usually lead to less maintence. Keep them on there, there's no such thing as too much filtration.

u can have to much filtration if some of the organisms require organic matter to feed but what you have would just help u out really id keep it.

I've never seen too much filtration, its a hypothetical thing to say that you can filter out everything. A skimmer will stop producing foam if there is no more protiens in the water... which will allow some things to remain.

tanks that are to "clean" will lack microfauna as well as phytoplankton needed for a natural feeding. over fine mechanical filtration as well as to much chemical filtration can have negative effects. i cant remember what book i read it in but i know it was actually in several books and a also read a study on it.

That stuff only applies to thing that we shouldn't keep in aquairums anyway. Im not going to get into an arguement about it though... I'm sure you've read things.
