All plants will benefit from moderate to high light and CO2, though some will tolerate lower light levels better than others.
As far as nitrate reduction is concerned, 50% weekly water changes usually will suffice. The best thing to do is to aim for a target level of nitrate(10ppm for example) and do enough water changes to maintain that level. Some tanks will need more or less water changes depending on stocking levels, as previously mentioned.
