Overstocked and Nitrates?

Yep...the gravel is very clean. And it turns out I am taking out about 10 gals.
(thought the buckets were 2 gal...they were 5, hahaha...heh...)

I can't really add any extra filtration because of the way the ecplipse is set up...it's a proprietary in-hood filter.

If I am not mistaken the Eclipse has a series of boxes each with a different material in the path of the water flow. Carbon filled floss, biowheel and chemical bag of nitrate remover. My suggestion would be to consider switching the carbon filled floss for just bio-media and replace the nitrate bag with additional bio-media. Since chemical filtration is not really necessary the additional bio-capacity might do the trick.

No No, The eclipse filter has 2 compartments.
The first largest compartment holds the floss/carbon cartrige.
The second compartment holds the bio wheel.
What i will be doing this month is: Buy the sponge used for the aquaclear 500 and cutting it to fit the floss/carbon compartment.
Voila! no more carbon
xiliquiern,If you need to get rid of the carbon, this is the easiest way to do this.

Would it be recommended then, to not use the carbon cartidges ever and simply use the sponge? I never knew carbon could be something not wanted in a filtration system...

Carbon lasts around 2 weeks and then its dead. The only time i will use it is when i need to remove meds.
I really dont see much difference right now even though my cartrige is around a month old, to top that out i have plants and plan on getting more...
SPONGE WITH ME

Note: if you get a sponge , cut it a bit short since the water output that sends the water towards the biowheel (in right hand side of cartrige compartment) is kinda small.
The gap between the sponge and the outlet will reduce the chances of clogging.

Oh...well...interesting. So no more need to buy those filters, huh? Just buy a sponge and rinse and reuse forever, pretty much?

Yes,
I find eclipse cartriges pricey.
Also a sponge will be reusable up to a point(long time), but very much cheaper.
If you need more mechanical filtration you can fit some batting in that gap I told you about for a day or two.(clogs very quickly due to small outlet)
The same with carbon(when needed).

All of these resons make your eclipse more flexible with media options and works the same/better than the original media.

Amazing...I'll do that tomorrow and see what happens with the filter media change and the reduced feedings.
