With 24/7 light (such as in refugiums) the plants never start respiration right? They never consume oxygen, just keep up the photosynthesis and keep adding more oxygen than any they may be taking in, right?

no they need a rest period. should have the lights on 8-14 hours a day. mine are on for 10 hours.
I know people use plants in freshwater sumps with the lights on 24/7. Does anyone have experience with this?
I've always heard of sumps with lights on for half the day and lights off. If you have a sump with lights on all day, you have to provide carbon and fertilizers constantly.
Carbon = CO2 or an alternate source of carbon (Flourish Excel).

I have read that carbonate hardness can be a soure of carbon if carbon dioxide is not high enough. I am assuming this is a much less efficient source.
