Oxygen in the aquarium

Hi Guys,

Just a qustion, I have a 65Ltr Freshwater setup, planted running a Hagen DIY CO2 System.

I have Planted:

4 x Java Fern
2 x Amazon Swords
Alot of Ricca.

and it's stocked to the limit with fish!

I also have the eheim permantent CO2 Test which is always green, which is good so far as the manual says!

My Question is, Do I need to put an airstone to give them more oxygen for the fish or do the plants give off enough. I wouldn't like them to be drowning with no oxygen!

I should be fine, infact if you add an airstone, it may not be beneficial to your plants, as the oxygen displaces the CO2 in the water and won't allow it to become disolved (or so I have read) They plants should be adding enough O2 to the water, plus you have it dissolving from the air. If you have any current in the water that will help add oxygen to the water as well.

Oxygen and CO2 are not mutually exclusive, you can have high concentrations of both in the same tank.

Agree with Alex, solubility of O2 and CO2 are independent. But an airstone will blow off CO2 more severely, as atmospheric CO2 is much lower concentration than atmospheric O2.

Thing is yesterday I added an airstone to test it, and the fish seemed more lively, maybe they had a oxygen deficency in the tank! I hope it doesn't offset too much CO2, I guess I just have to balance it out correctly, it'a all trial and error!
