No, I don't think so. Guns should be respected for the dangerous machines that they are, but they shouldn't be feared any more than an SUV. Without training and experience, either one can end your life pretty quickly.Indigo said:

I'm not afraid of guns. I keep a Beretta 92FS Inox loaded with Federal 9mm +P EFMJ at the head of my bed and carry a Kel-Tec P32 every day (upgrading that soon). I'm afraid of unqualified people handling guns. They're dangerous.

I carry a Keltec P32 also. 
The weapon in my head board is a ParaOrdinace P10. .45 caliber holds 10shots in the mag and one in the chamber. Loaded with Hydra-Shok HP +p
With fear also comes curiosity. When you teach kids to respect guns and the proper use of one with supervision, the curiosity goes away. I will be teaching my kids (when I have some) proper gun safety.
Relating to paintball guns, I think it's worth a discussion with them about general gun safety if they haven't been exposed to them before.
