Okay, so I just got back from the hardware store, where I was going to get black paint to paint the back of my tank. When I asked the guy for black paint to paint glass with, he said it wouldn't work, and the paint would not stick. I said that I knew a bunch of people who said they'd painted the backs of their tanks, but he just said it would not work, and they must be using black paper or something.
So help me out here. Will paint stick to glass? I have some leftover black Krylon Fusion. Will that stick to glass? What about acrylic paint? Oil paint?

Krylon fusion is good paint for an aquarium. Don't listen to that guy. Paint sticks to glass.

Painting a window sash would be a lot easier if it DIDN'T stick to glass! It will stick, however you will need multiple coats to bring up the opacity. Shine a light from behind the tank and see if it comes through to the front. You may need 5 or 6 light coats to build up enough. Good preparation is very important, making sure the glass is very clean and also masking off your edges with care. Like many jobs, it's all in the prep.

It works, those male hardware store employess just get carried away with telling women that they have bad, unrealistic ideas.

2 days ago i bought one of those color sampler mini cans from a local store for 4 bucks. its the kind of paint for the walls in your house and it worked just fine as well. I couldn't use spray paint cause i had to do it in my house. I just did 3 coats or so and it looks awesome!

excuse my cat in the tank, lol he jumped in so i put the cover on and got a picture. but this gives you the idea of what the black looks like painted. I'm very happy with it.

lol, yeah. He kinda treated me like an idiot. I;ll admit, I don't know much about paint, I may be female, and I'm only 22 years old, but I'm not stupid. I'm not just making things up when I say that people paint their tanks. I'll go back and bring my dad, so it looks a little less weird. I want a sample mix of mostly black, but with a little navy blue in it.
