Paint Question

2 days ago i bought one of those color sampler mini cans from a local store for 4 bucks. its the kind of paint for the walls in your house and it worked just fine as well. I couldn't use spray paint cause i had to do it in my house. I just did 3 coats or so and it looks awesome!

excuse my cat in the tank, lol he jumped in so i put the cover on and got a picture. but this gives you the idea of what the black looks like painted. I'm very happy with it.

well You can tell schmo the hardware guy i have 7 tanks with black painted backglass
I used ACE hardware black spray enamel thin it cost $1.00 a can.1 can did two 75 gallon tanks-Anne

Just for the record, I used black Krylon Fusion, AND IT STUCK! *collective gasp* If I weren't such a wimp, I'd go back to the store and tell the guy that I wasn't crazy.

But here's the real question... satin or gloss?

I bought both because I couldn't make up my mind in the store.

I prefer the way the flat paint looks, but the gloss is more likely to be water resistant longer.

thing is, in a way, he's right... even though I have several painted tanks, the paint is incredibly easy to remove, it scratches and peels right off, without a problem. water will make it even more likely to come off. the thing to do is to paint it with really light coats with a roller. let it fully dry between coats, or it will peel off the glass onto the roller. this is very frustrating. 3 coats is ideal. Krylon fusion is known to work, but spray paint requires very careful masking to avoid getting it where you don't want it. With water based paints, you can just wipe it off.

one time, I bought a craigslist tank and carried it home (20 blocks) in the rain. it was painted black when I bought it. I was painted black by the time I got home. People on the street were staring at me by block 4. It was a real fun night.
