I have a fish tank ornament that has lost its color (it seems like it shouldn't have lost its color but oh well it did) so I'm wondering if I could repaint it with some kind of safe paint and safe sealer?

Any paint will work. I would use enamel paint, let it cure completely and seal it with an epoxy(2 part) resin to make it aquarium safe.

How long should an orament be able to be in a tank and not lose its color? The one I have had suppposedly only been in a tank previously for a few months. And what do you mean by 2 part?

I guess it would depend on the paint and quality of the ornament...hard to say.
A 2 part epoxy = one tube of resin and one tube of hardener. The epoxy cures when the 2 are mixed together and a reaction occurs. Similar to how Bondo is used if you've ever used it. Just make sure it's a clear coat epoxy.

Oh ok i've used that before but to make like a fake riverbed with some rocks implanted into it. I can't remember but doesn't that stuff get hard really fast and isn't it really thick? I guess it depends on how much hardener you put into the mix? Do you just brush it onto the ornament very quickly? how thick and how many coats?

Ok thanks, that helps alot. But yikes the price! I hope Home Depot has better prices! I might not go through the trouble of repainting but its good info. to know in case I ever get bored and have nothing better to do or if the ornament turns out to just be too "blah" looking once its in the tank. I'm hoping the gravel and plants and all will spruce it the overall look up. I'm setting the tank up tomorrow hopefully, can't wait!!
