i am thinking of going to pressurized co2 from diy. was wondering if the paintball system would be enough for my 46 gallon tank. also, i see they sell it with and without a solenoid. is a solenoid needed? im not even really sure what it does. lol.

A solenoid turns the CO2 off via a timer or PH controller. I turn mine on and off with the lights. CO2 lasts longer that way. the paint gun system will work but you may be changing the cartridge monthly. A five pounder should last you 6 months.

for a 46g tank the paintball tank will run out in about month and half-2 months tops.

Dont waste your money on the red sea setup (unless you can get it extremely cheap)

Getting ^^ that + a few 24oz paintball tanks off ebay/craigslist and you should be set.
