Painting the INSIDE of the back page of an acrylic aquarium.

Just came across something interesting where someone suggested maybe window tint. Would this: work on acrylic? Stick underwater? Be aquarium safe?

I wonder....

Even if I have to silicone down the edges... Would that work? Or use petrolium jelly along the edges, and THEN silicone on top?

I get my background fit how I want it. Then, run a small bead of silicone around the edge of the glass about 3/4" away from the edge and then use something to smooth out the silicone and then lay in the background and then smooth around the edge again to make sure that everything is good and sealed. On a 6' long tank you might want to put some silicone in a few other spots to keep things flat. Thats my method and my .02

Just a thought, if you painted the outside of the tank black the light would not shine through and the black would overwhelm the blue to show as black. What do you think?

Thanks for the guidance and suggestions, everyone. I've decided to build a 3D background for the tank.

Hopefully it'll be done before 2012... :)

I have done something simular to make a black acryllic background light colored. There is a two part acryllic epoxy called envirotex light. Reefers use it and it is fish safe. Tipe the tank on its side (so the side you wish to cover is laying on the bottom. Mix up some of the epoxy and to it add black aquarium gravel, then pour. It will give you a textured black background and much more permanent then trying to paint or insert some kind of makeshift background.
