painting your tank

Oh shoot! I had no idea paint could do that to silicon. Hopefully I'm okay too as I only painted the backside with masking tapes around the edges.

Thanks for that info though, Niko.

I used flat acrylic from home depot. I have used it on all my tanks. I roll it on and use about 4 coats, letting each dry before I add the next.

someone post some pics of their tanks painted?> i havent been a fan, i have always had mine clear all the way around. No backrounds or paint. I was thinkin about painting it, What does painting have over a paper backround, like pros and cons of them both... and pros and cons of it being clear? :footinmouth:

I just used a black semi gloss I had around the house. 2 coats, done.

Kodiak, I like for the back (or side if that is used as the back) to be a solid color to hide equipment and provide a contrast for the reef and stock. The exception to this would be if you had a reef ready and all eqipment was hidden in the center or bottom of the tank and it was viewable from all 4 sides.

I used the Krylon Fusion for Glass and Plastic, It works great! It didn't seem to flake or peel like most paints I have used in the past.
