I have couple of honey gouramis in my tank I just noticed one of them lying on a plant near the to surface. I know they breathe from mouth but it was abit below the surface level. Just lying on a leaf. She was abit pale, fins are not damaged but they were pale. Wasn't eating when I put some food.
tank mates are neon tetras, dwarf gouramis and more honey gouramis.

I'm so sorry that your fish friend died. From what you described, I really don't know what happened. If the other fish are fine, I would check your params and if needed do a water change, but I am so sorry that you lost the gourami.

It's possible that the other gouramis might have beaten it up a bit, I know you described that none of its fins were nipped, but I lost a guppy and a harlequin the other night due to a kribensis being aggressive, and they didn't have nipped fins.
Sorry for your loss :(

I have lost honeys that way as well. The less robust ones seem to be unable to thrive even though they are not really beat up by the healthier gouramis. I think the stress of being the weakest fish and getting chased around just does them in over time.
