Pals for a betta

Each betta is different. I have one that does well in a community tank but he HATES snails. He will attack them to death. My other betta is fine with them. I also had a betta that killed every other fish in his tank. So it is just each betta to his own.

This is so true. I've had a male that was fine with a female and adored his gourami tank mate; others that hated all of the above; one that ignored snails and one that detests them. I have had HORRRIBLE luck with male bettas and tetras, but I'm so convinced now it's the individual.

Still, Nerdyguy, for almost the same $$ as a 2.5 w/fiter etc. you can get a 10gal and have lots more options! In a 2.5 I'd only do an apple snail maybe.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I will go with the plan as stated above. The betta will live in a 2.5 until I can get a 5 (I'm actually looking at a cheap plastic reptile-ish tote that is about 6 gallons) ready to put the occupants of the 10 in. Once he is in there (the 10) and happy, I will try introducing some neons. If that doesn't work out, I will probably switch the betta into the 5 and let the original occupants reclaim the 10. I may also put java moss and/or java fern in the 10 if the betta and neons work out.

I agree with TMQP. A 5g is too small for a betta and tetras/platies. IMO it may incite aggression as each specie needs their space. Wait until you are ready and try the betta out in the 10g with tank mates.

Once again:

10 Gallon:
1 Betta
Several Neons

6 Gallon:
1 Guppy
2 Platies
1 Oto
2 Shrimp

Sorry for the confusion. My last post was a little misleading I suppose.
