Paludarium Q's.

Yeah, the pictures get no where close to doing it justice.

I have a whites tree frog in there currently. He and a single cory cat (I know I need to take him and get a different kind of fish) are my only pets at the moment.

I am looking for some kind of a ground cover for in the tank.

Also I need to get rid of my mites, They don't actively hurt my plants or my animals although I am concerend that they might crawl in his nose and harm him that way, plus I'm sure he doesn't like them.

They are very tiny, white, and don't eat the plants or animals. I think they came in on a plant though and they are in all 3 of my terrariums. I have tried 2 different mite treatments to no avail. I am wondering if a very small dose of Ivomec diluted in water in a spray bottle would get rid of them.

Hmm..... I'm not really sure what would kill those mites. I know I used to sprinkle Hartz flea and tick powder in my snake cages if they ever got mites, but I probably wouldn't want to use that for this application. What do they seem to feed on?

I have no idea what they feed on. They don't feed on wallace (the frog) or the plants. The soil doesn't appear to be breaking down but I see them below the surface through the glass. They do congregate where its moist though and in my filter enclosure they walk on the protein film on the top and wander across the head of my filter.

Oh and for size comparison they are between this size . and this-

. - they are very tiny

I think I have those same buggers in my grindal worm culture. Perhaps if you introduced some springtails(assuming you don't have any right now) they could out-compete them for food. Otherwise, I don't think I would really worry about it at this point because I am not sure there is much that can be done to safely kill them.

Well the spray I used killed part of my plants. I think thats what happened to my beautiful giant pothos I used to have (thats where the came from too). I sprayed it and it died but thought it was the bugs not the spray...

My mom won't allow me to have springtails.... Bah humbug. well bah no bug actually.

Are the mites tiny and kind of rust colored? If you take a piece of paper and tap on a leaf they should fall off for closer identification. And if they are spider mites then yes, they do suck on the juices of the plant.
